Most decades have some sort of history to make them stand out from other decades. The sixties could be classed as the decade when the post war baby boomers reached puberty. At the time the boomers were often referred to as the bulge.

This generation was notable by its social activism and individualism. The protests against war and a culture of sexual revolution and unrestrained hedonism stand out. Rock and Roll became a massive global industry during the sixties and the battle of the younger generation to change society became a formidable force in this era.

It is true to say this generation even today will not lie down and sleep. Politicians since the sixties always have watched this generation as being a high percentage proportion of the population they represent a formidable power.

The sixties had many contrasting years from gang warfare of the Mods and Rockers to the peace and love of the hippies often referred to as the Flower Power era, overall it is referred to as the Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll years.
